From March 6-7, the Schulich School of Law welcomed more than 80 prospective students to its annual Weldon Welcome Days (WWD) weekend for the opportunity to explore the school and city, connect with faculty and students, and experience the close-knit community that Weldon is known for. Attendees travelled from coast to coast to visit Halifax, with students coming from as far as British Columbia.

Throughout the weekend, prospective students learned more about the opportunities available to them if they choose to study at Schulich Law through sessions that highlighted the school鈥檚 academic programs, experiential learning opportunities, and its longstanding commitment to the Weldon Tradition of unselfish public service. They also had lots of informal chances to meet students, staff, and faculty members, to ask questions, and to take part in fun events, like the eagerly anticipated rematch of legal minds in the student vs. professor trivia game 鈥淎re You Smarter Than a Law Professor?"

For many attendees, one of the most valuable parts of the weekend was the opportunity to connect with current students like Duncan Davies, Avery Chalmers, and Laken Tucker, 1Ls who served on the WWD organizing committee.

鈥淚 was eager to get involved because of the positive experience I had when I attended WWD from Toronto as a prospective student last year,鈥� says Davies. 鈥淚 met so many great people that it sealed my decision to move to Halifax and study at Schulich Law."

Davies says his favourite part of this past weekend was the upper-year dinners that took place Friday night, as it was a great opportunity to spend time with prospective students in a relaxed environment. "Spending time together, in an unstructured way, meant they could really scratch beneath the surface to learn more about our experiences here, and a real highlight for me was seeing them begin to imagine themselves as Schulich Law students."

Tucker took part in WWD virtually last year, and was keen to get involved and give back by offering whatever guidance and support she could to those making the stressful decision of where to attend law school.

She shares that the best advice she聽heard during the event聽came聽from Associate Professor Adelina Iftene, who shared that聽law school will equip you with a phenomenal toolbox to use in the world.

Chalmers did not attend WWD last year but was happy to get involved.聽鈥淚 hope that prospective students were able to learn about Schulich Law and gain a clearer sense of our genuine experiences to help them make an informed decision about their law school journey,鈥� she says.

She says that Friday night鈥檚 upper-year dinners and introduction to Domus, a social society for law students, were two of her personal highlights because they provided an opportunity for the students to freely ask questions and get to know what it's really like to be a law student at 黄色直播.
