Centre for Psychological Health

Thank you for your interest in psychological services at the Centre for Psychological Health (CPH).听Our Centre accepts referrals from established community partners.听We do not accept self-referrals.听

The CPH was established in 2023, as part of the 黄色直播 Clinical Psychology PhD Program, in partnership with the Nova Scotia Office of Addiction and Mental Health to provide high quality training experiences for students in the 黄色直播 Clinical Psychology Program and to meet community needs for psychological services.听

How do I get care here?听

Are you connected with any community agencies? If so, please ask your worker there or your family doctor (if you have one) if they are a partner of 黄色直播 Centre for Psychological Health.听 We are not able to accept self-referrals. All of our referrals come from CPH established community partners.

We have set it up this way to make sure that we are the right fit for what you need care for and to build relationships with specific communities and populations that have not always had access to psychological care.听

We know it can be hard to find mental health supports. What Services do we provide?

Psychotherapy:听听We offer individual, group, couples, and family therapy using evidence and culturally informed models of care, such as cognitive behaviour therapy, cognitive processing therapy, trauma informed CBT, acceptance and commitment therapy, emotion focused family therapy, and more.听We provide services in English and other languages via interpretive services.听

Psychoeducational /Psychodiagnostic assessments:听We offer comprehensive psychoeducational/psychodiagnostic assessments to children, adolescents, and adults.听

Services we don鈥檛 offer
Our Clinic is not able to provide psychiatric or emergency services or services where there is a risk of frequent or severe crisis or involvement with the law.听

Who do we see?

We work with established community partners to identify and make referrals for individuals, couples, and families from age 5 and up who need access to psychological care. All indviduals have low income and limited/no health benefits. CPH will prioritize referrals for clients who identify as being part of the following populations and communities:

African Nova Scotian or Black
2SLGBTQIA+
Indigenous
Newcomers or refugees
Children in care (current or former)

Who will I see?听

All services in the Centre are offered by doctoral students from an accredited Psychology program, as part of their clinical training. From time to time we have social work and psychiatry trainees who provide care to our clients.听 All services are provided under the supervision of licensed clinical psychologists (or registered social worker for social work trainees) who are affiliated with the 黄色直播 Department of Psychology and Neuroscience or in the community. Services provided at the Centre may also support the research of our students and faculty.听

Clinical Training

The training curriculum at 黄色直播 is focused on providing high-quality, evidence-based assessment and treatment for children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Delivery of equity-based and culturally competent care is central to our practice and the training objectives of our practicum and residency programs.

We offer a warm, supportive atmosphere, and aim to support the career development of our residents and students and aim to foster an atmosphere of collegiality, consultation, and mentorship among our team members.

Research

The CPH is dedicated to the discovery of new ways of helping people听with psychological difficulties and improving treatments. Our research is designed to improve the lives of individuals struggling with issues relevant to our society. Location and Directions

We are located in the Fenwick Professional Centre, 5595 Fenwick Street, Suite 313, Halifax, NS on the 3rd floor above Shoppers Drug Mart.听

Public Transportation: The CPH is accessible via public transportation, located about a five minute walk from bus stops on South St. (7B) and South Park St. (4, 10A, 10B, 10C).听

Parking: There is limited 1hr and 2hr parking on the streets around the CPH. There is paid underground parking available in the buildling with access from Fenwick Street.听
