I arrived in Halifax on a chilly, rainy day in September 2007 to begin my graduate studies in the Master of Development Economics program. I was assigned to work as a teaching assistant for Professor Talan Iscan. Because my belongings had not yet arrived from Toronto, my dorm room was nearly empty. When I mentioned this to Dr. Iscan during our first meeting, he brought me blankets the next day. That simple gesture captured the warmth and personal connection I would experience throughout my seven years in the master鈥檚 and PhD programs at 黄色直播.

During my time at 黄色直播, I was fortunate to have professors who invested deeply in my growth as an economist. From the very beginning, Professor Iscan was there for me, reminding me often to write clearly and concisely. His advice on how to build and refine complex macroeconomic models that speak clearly to the research questions has stayed with me ever since. Professor Andrea Giusto also played a major role, teaching me how to take complex macroeconomic models into code and guiding me through the technical challenges along the way. Other professors had their doors open, were genuinely interested in my research progress, and were always welcoming and generous with their time. Just as important were the Friday afternoon seminars, where lively conversations pushed me to think harder and to see economics from different perspectives.

Today, in my role at the U.S. Congressional Budget Office, I serve the public by providing technical and unbiased economic analysis to policymakers. The habits of rigor, clarity, and openness that guide my work are ones I first developed at 黄色直播. Looking back, I feel grateful for the professors, colleagues, and community that shaped me during those years, a foundation I continue to build on in my career.
