Pratique Kain
BA (Honours) 2015
My name is Pratique, and I currently reside in Toronto, where I work in management consulting. Before consulting, I worked in policy, first for the Government of Ontario and then at CIBC within the bank's regulatory affairs department.
I attended Dal between 2013 and 2015, where I graduated with honors. In Economics with a focus on political instability and economic growth in South Asia. Dal鈥檚 academic rigor and the ease of accessibility to the faculty were immensely instrumental in sparking my interest in the multifaceted nature of economics. I specifically remember three classes that taught me that problem-solving cannot exist in silos: International Trade with Professor Boulatoff, Environmental Economics with Professor Boulatoff, and Ethics, Justice, and Economics with Professor Rosenblum.
I took that intersectional approach of training in economics at UofT, where I focused on innovation policy while attending the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy. Incidentally, one of my very good friends from Dal Econ was the one who introduced me to the program, and we overlapped for a year in Toronto 鈥 we are still very good friends and catch up at least once a month. I worked in policy for close to 4 years before moving to Chicago to attend business school. I have always been very interested in understanding how governments make policies, but it became increasingly clear that to become a well-rounded leader in either business or government, one must understand how policy and private sector operations interact with each other.
I now work in consulting at Bain & Co. in Toronto and have worked in manufacturing, utilities, and ed-tech so far. Outside of work, I love to cook, play squash, and hang out with friends (two of my closest Dal friends live in Toronto) when I can. I am reading 鈥淭he Art of Racing in the Rain鈥 these days and cannot recommend it enough to anyone who is looking for their next recommendation and has not read this one.
