How to Apply

Am I Eligible?聽

The Master of Marine Management program welcomes applicants from all disciplines who are passionate about ocean solutions. If you hold a four-year bachelor鈥檚 degree (with honors or equivalent) and a minimum B average (3.0 GPA/73%), you are eligible to apply.聽

The Marine Affairs Program (MAP) values interdisciplinary backgrounds in natural sciences, social sciences, engineering, humanities, law, and more.

Eligibility Checklist

  • Four-year bachelor鈥檚 degree from a recognized university
  • Minimum B average (3.0 GPA) in your last 60 credit hours
  • Academic interest in marine management and ocean issues
  • Motivation for a professional, interdisciplinary graduate program
  • English language proficiency (if applicable)

MAP values diversity in lived and professional experiences alongside academics achievements.聽Applicants with non-traditional educational paths, substantial relevant work experience, or GPAs below a B average who can demonstrate strong professional or experiential qualifications are encouraged to reach out to discuss their eligibility. We consider applications holistically and are willing to work with prospective students on a case-by-case basis.

How to Apply:

Experience a streamlined application with 黄色直播's online application portal.

Ensure all components are submitted before the March 31st deadline (January 31 if applying for scholarships). Incomplete applications will not be considered. Please note: Admissions to the MMM program are exclusively for the fall (September) term. There is no winter or summer intake.

International applicants are strongly encouraged to apply by January 15.

1. Transcripts

For application purposes, unofficial academic transcripts and degree certificates (if degree conferral not stated on transcripts) are required for each post-secondary institution attended. Transcripts should include your first and last name, degree and program type and name of degree issuing university. Transcripts are to be submitted as PDF files, file name lastname_first initial_trancript.pdf.

Should you be accepted for admission to your program of choice, final transcripts will be required within 90 days of the start of your program. Submission of official transcripts for newly admitted students must be sent directly from the degree granting university.聽聽

Transcripts in languages other than English or French must be accompanied by an English translation provided by the institution issuing the transcript.

Notarized copies of transcripts are not permitted.

Official transcripts are not required for any courses or degrees you have completed at 黄色直播.

Transcripts submitted with applications become the property of 黄色直播, are subject to verification, are not available for copying and will not be returned to the applicant.

Note that the Faculty of Graduate Studies, 黄色直播, reserves the right to verify the validity of all documents provided, as well as the inability of an issuing institution to issue documents.聽 聽

2. References

Applications must include a minimum of three (3) confidential letters of reference, two of which are academic references from full-time professors or instructors. If you are a mid-career applicant who has been out of your last formal degree program for more than three years, it is possible to use professional references in lieu of one academic reference.

When submitting contact information for electronic reference letters, 黄色直播 will only accept university, teaching hospital, and government email addresses and will not accept Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, or business email addresses.

E-reference Submission

You will need to have the email addresses of your referees when completing your online application. 黄色直播 will only accept university, teaching, hospital, and government email addresses (no personal email addresses such as Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, or business addresses).聽

References will be sent a notification by email indicating you have listed them as a reference, and the procedure for completing the online reference form. Allow 5 business days for your referee(s) to be contacted by our system. Take this into consideration for the application deadline.

References that do not have an email address as indicated above must contact marine.affairs@dal.ca directly for instructions.

3. Curriculum Vitae

The curriculum vitae (CV) should summarize your academic and work history, research, publications, awards, fellowships, extra-curricular activities and volunteer experience. Details should be listed from most to least recent. And, please do not photos of yourself in your CV.

4. Statement of Interest

In 1 to 2 pages, applicants should describe their motivation to apply, their interests in marine management, specific topics they wish to explore, their career goals (such as preferred internship sectors or future roles), and the skills they aim to gain during the program.聽

5. Research Proposal聽

Provide a research statement about a marine management problem in which you are interested in or knowledgeable about. It should be written in the style of a research paper. The statement should be 800-1000 words, not including keywords, appropriate citations, tables, figures, or ther supplementary material. The statement should offer evidence of quality, clarity, synthesis, and originality in your thinking. Please treat the statement as an opportunity to demonstrate your skills as a researcher and writer, as well as your research interests. other supplementary material. 6. English Language Competency (if applicable)

International students must complete the same admission process as Canadian students. If English is not your first language and you did not complete your most recent degree at an English-speaking institution, you must submit an English proficiency test score.

7. Additional Material (optional)

If you鈥檝e experienced a substantial life event that has created interruptions in your educational or professional career, you may wish to include a written statement explaining this disruption so we can better understand you and your personal trajectory. Nothing disclosed in this section will count against your application.
