MAP Scholarships
The Marine Affairs Program (MAP) offers prestigious scholarships to support graduate students dedicated to marine management and research.
The Sobey Fund for Oceans
A flagship partnership with WWF-Canada and the Donald R. Sobey Foundation, this fund supports scholarships and student work placements.
Each year, three $17,500 awards are granted through the Sobey Fund for Oceans, designed to encourage innovative, multidisciplinary approaches for healthy oceans and sustainable economies.
- One scholarship prioritizes international students.
- One prioritizes African Nova Scotian or Indigenous students.
- The third is open to all applicants.
Application Process and Requirements
Applicants must submit:
- Completed scholarship application form
- Research essay (1,000–1,500 words) explaining how their work aligns with the Sobey Fund's goals.
- Unofficial transcript(s)
- Curriculum vitae (CV)
- Two academic reference letters sent directly by referees.
Applications are submitted by email to marine.affairs@dal.ca with the subject line "Graduate Scholarship Application - Sobey Fund for Oceans" by January 31 each year.

Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
