The Certificate in Animal Welfare will give you specialized knowledge on the well-being of animals managed ethically by humans. The certificate provides a range of theory, evaluation of scientific literature, and its application surrounding the use of animals.

You鈥檒l also have the opportunity to observe, measure, and document a variety of animal behaviors by working hands-on in our Ruminant Animal Centre.

Anyone who has an interest in the well-being of animals and would like recognition of their specialized skills in this area. The certificate is open to students with an undergraduate degree, as well as professionals working in related fields.

This program gives you expertise specific to animal health and welfare and prepares you for a career in this field.

What will you learn?

In completing five courses as part of this certificate program, you will understand ethical concepts surrounding animal use and will develop the skills required to assess specific situations and make sound recommendations for improvements in livestock care, handling, transportation, and slaughter.

Requirements

Completion of this certificate requires:

15 credit hours to be completed within 5 years (maximum).

  • ANSC3005 Animal Welfare

  • BIOA4004 Animal Adaptation and Stress

  • PHLA3001 Animal Ethics (Agricultural Campus), or PHIL3106 (Halifax Campus)听

  • ANSC3007 African Wildlife Ecology

  • AQUA3000 Fish Health听

  • ANSC4009 Directed Studies in Animal Science (if in area of animal welfare)
